The Mirage Andretta consists of traditional Himachali mud houses lovingly restored to an inviting retreat. The Main House of The Mirage was built in 1948 by the drama teachers of Prithviraj Kapoor and Jaya Dyal, who arrived in Andretta from Lahore at the time of Partition. Along with other members of Lahore’s cultural scene, they joined Norah Richards, who had established an artist’s colony in the 1920s. It is set amongst dense foliage against a backdrop of jungle & bamboo groves.
The Mirage offers guests a unique luxury experience within a time capsule. The property consists of three traditional Himachali mud cottages lovingly restored to an inviting retreat. A calming quintessential mountain escape, it is a veritable museum of hand-picked Indian furniture and artefacts.
It passed through several hands before Denis Harrap acquired the house 16 years ago and established the Homestay. Inspired by the mud brick construction of the Main House, two mud cottages were built in the garden. His neighbour Malti Chandihok eventually passed on, and her White House house became part of The Mirage Andretta. The Yoga Shala and swimming pool followed. Today, it’s a Homestay – Retreat, one of the best in the state.
The peace, quiet, and views of the Himalayas are constant inspirations!
